Some people might think of a scone as being unhealthy, however, I believe that with a few tweaks you can make a healthier version, meaning you can still enjoy this delicious traditional food.
Some tweaks I’ve used in this recipe include:
*using a wholemeal flour (I feel spelt is best) which is full of fibre, compared to the standard refined wheat flour which causes spikes in insulin levels and won’t leave you as full as wholemeal
*not adding in refined sugar, sweetening instead with fruit
*using organic, good quality ingredients where possible e.g. in the fruit and dairy products

Similar to a popular chocolate bar yet this contains better for you, healthier ingredients including raspberries and cacao making a satisfying, guilt free breakfast!
Recipe
-75g raspberries
-1 Tbspn shredded coconut
-1 Tbspn cacao nibs (or save for a topping)
-3/4 tspn cacao powder
-half a small banana
-200ml milk (any)
Optional: 1 heaped Tbspn hemp seeds (or other seeds), 1 brazil nut (for selenium content)
Blend together the above ingredients, pour into a bowl then top with any combo of the following: coconut, cacao nibs/dark choc chips (DF as needed), berries, sliced banana. I also added a drizzle of Sweet freedom’s choc shot for an extra choccy hit!

This recipe is a great way to sneak some healthy green powder into your breakfast for a nutrition boost. Moringa is high in vitamin K and iron (among others), which can be hard for some people to get, plus one advantage to consuming it is that you only need a small amount for a big nutritional impact (
Aduna brand):
approx 96% vitamin K per 4.5g! Start out with small amounts if you haven’t used it before.
Note: Do not
use it if you’re pregnant/on blood thinners-speak to a doctor first.
The other ingredients in this meal provide you with plenty of healthy fat and slow release energy to boost the rest of your day!
Moringa can be purchased in health food stores or

As research is always developing and me being a person who loves science and food, I am always learning new information about food/nutrition and applying this as best I can to my life.
Now this isn’t always easy and sometimes when I find out something unpleasant about a food that I adore, it makes me want to bang my head off a wall. . . . but I resist and do my best to minimise whatever it is so that I can still enjoy my food without being extremely restricted (as I feel this creates a bad relationship with food) but also to maximise my health.
