Figgy hazelnut choc balls

Less sugar than a recipe with dates as the apricots and figs naturally contain lower levels. The great combo of the chocolate cacao*, roasted hazelnuts and vanilla powder really finishes this recipe off perfectly, I mean who doesn’t like a chocolate & hazelnut pairing!?
*I like to use raw cacao powder in recipes like this as it is not over heated therefore you are getting the max amount of beneficial compounds and antioxidants.

Chocolate, orange zest & strawberry spelt scones

Spelt is definitely one of my favourite grains (especially in scone form). Wholemeal spelt flour has a great neutral taste and is finer than other wholegrain flours but is still high in fibre and goodness meaning a nourishing, guilt free coffee time treat for you but the fruit & chocolate in this recipe make it quite a favourite with the kids also!
FYI: I’ve found organic spelt flour in Marks & Spencer for only £2 a bag, you can also get it in big supermarkets/health food shops.
Try to use organic fruit and dairy products where possible in this recipe.

BBQ roasted chickpeas

Great, handy, healthy, delicious snack that counts as 1/5 a day! Brilliant for lunch boxes and once cooked they keep well in the fridge, chilling there until you need a quick snack e.g. great for when you’ve just finished a gym session & you’re hungry, just grab and eat, nom nom!

Pizzafied omelette

Super easy, cheap, tasty, healthy “fastfood”! Wahey!
This is my favourite omelette as the combo of the sweet tomato puree, cheese, basil and oregano really remind me of a pizza, AND there is so much nutrition in the ingredients, you can also squeeze more in there by adding lots of veg and chilli. Plus tomato puree provides better absorption/bio-availability of lycopene than fresh tomatoes as it’s more concentrated and has been cooked, 1 generous tablespoon actually counts as 1 of your 5 a day! Brilliant! To add in even more veggie goodness, serve with a side salad. Try to opt for an organic cheese if you can, as I mentioned in my cheap organic buys post it’ll contain more beneficial omega 3 fats, meaning nutrition galore in this recipe if you choose wisely.

SENS cricket flour bars- A nourishing future food trend

Are you aware of the latest food trend that provides you with energy/ protein bars that are low carb, contain good fats, are high in protein with lots of vitamins/minerals e.g. B12, iron, calcium but with no gluten, dairy, soy or refined sugar?
Sound good?
By the way, the protein mainly comes from cricket flour (please don’t tell me you just made a face). People eat meat & shellfish so why not insects? This is probably because people immediately imagine insects as coming from dirty mud. However these crickets have been raised in a very clean environment, the work in converting them into yummy food has already been done for you and they taste great with a nutritional punch too!

Sweet squash & creamy cashew butter flapjacks

These are some really nutritious and tasty flapjacks with secret veg that no one will notice.
The Vitamin A in the squash will be better absorbed by the fat from the cashew butter, plus the addition of this makes it creamier. This recipe is also filled with fibre which is slow releasing in energy and you can’t be bad to a flapjack which has a veg in it AND still tastes amazing plus is one of the best ways to get nutrition into your body and your kids without anyone knowing about the veg!

The before and after of my taste test of these babies!
